Looking at new wheels for the ‘burb. Currently have 22" that came on it when I bought it used, when those tires are done I’m going down to 20". Want the extra sidewall for smoothing out the rough Houston roads. Looking at theses replica GMC Sierra wheels :

Thoughts on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as a place to buy? They seem to have decent reviews and good prices. Other ideas? I think these wheels are probably commodity enough that I’m not that worried about quality issues.

As for the 22's, thinking I may try to sell them to a local place that does curb rash repair. I went there to repair the dinged up 328 wheels before I turned it back in at the end of the lease. They did a great job, and the shop looked like the type of place that may buy / sell wheels also (clean enough that I felt safe being there, sketch enough they would pay cash for some sweet 22's).

I’m open to ideas on selling these also (don’t particularly want to deal with CL).

Do not buy replica OE wheels from China. They are pig-iron garbage that will at best fail on you and do a ton of damage. That’s best case.

https://www.originalwheels.com/

They do not sell “replica” wheels. They do not sell “reconditioned” wheels. They sell the genuine article, taken off the genuine article. Wheels are literally the first thing to come off a car going into the junkyard, and literally the first thing to be inspected and put up for sale. A few hours of elbow grease gets you clean-as-new and a few bucks at the dealer gets you any missing center caps.

How’s the CL market in your area? Could you find those GMC wheels there?

Go into your local GMC dealer and ask if they sell takeoffs. Seriously. Those are some of the most common Sierra wheels on higher trim levels. If the dealer does stock unit brodozing they probably have a ton of these lying around with basically brand new tires on them.

Good point, I'll do some research on how they make their wheels.

OE wheels should be pretty easy to find for  that. If not on craigslist, visiting a few rent-a-wheel/places that sell rimz in the areas a real estate agent would call “up and coming” should net a set for pretty reasonable money. There’s no shortage of folks putting rimz on those GM trucks.

Having done business with Chinese metal foundries and casting companies? They will tell you whatever you want to hear. It won’t be even remotely true, but they will absolutely say that they are doing drop forging smiling in front of the pile of sand.

If it isn’t an actual OE wheel it is a death trap no matter what. Period. There is nobody making ‘replicas’ because it’s not legal for any legitimate manufacturer to make ‘replicas.’ Wheel designs can be both trademarked and copyrighted, and are.

That isn’t to say wheel reconditioners are using Chinese wheels. They aren’t. They’re buying junkyard wheels, making sure they’re safe, cleaning them up, and refinishing them. Perfectly fine. But there is no such thing as a legal or safe ‘replica’ wheel .

Call around to local dealerships and ask if they have any “takeoffs”. It’s the term used around here for the factory wheels (with tires) that the parts department gets stuck with when a dealer installed wheel or wheel /tire option is installed. They can’t sell em new so they are truly stuck with them until the used car lot needs em. Complete sets of 4 f actory wheels, sensors and tires for GM trucks go for about $800 here in MN
